Mae Jemison Elementary students performed better on Math assessments
Mae Jemison Elementary School in the South Suburbs of Chicago was having trouble finding a solution to help struggling students with math.
Mr. Kenneth Scott, Principal of Mae Jemison, sought to achieve two goals: first, find a way to raise state test scores for his math students. Second, allow students to use technology in the classroom in a productive yet engaging manner.
Mae Jemison partnered with Elevate K-12 to work with specific students on the content they were struggling with in an engaging manner. After the students were divided into small groups based on skill set, they worked through planned, standards-aligned curriculum with the same online instructor for all sessions to improve performance. MJES also provided the opportunity for students to use technology in a productive manner to foster technology literacy in the classroom.
Teachers said students in the Elevate K-12 program were more engaged and performed better on math assessments than before the program. They also gained more experience using an online platform in an academic setting.
